B Week

Last week we learned about the letter 'B'. Albert chose to celebrate by pulling up and banging on a drum.

We started with painting again.

We also made some boats as our example of something that starts with 'B'.   

We had to see if they floated.

They did! The boats may have only lasted a couple of minutes but the boys were entranced nonetheless.

We also had Asher meatballs.  I've been lazy for a while now when it comes to meatballs.  I've been just browning some beef and throwing in a few spices and calling it Asher meatballs.  Asher saw through my ploy and missed the real thing.  I finally made them for him and he was pretty excited.

The Boys

With Addilyn away at school all day, I've had a chance to focus on the boys.

Since Asher's preschool status was uncertain, we started doing some preschool-ish activities at home.  Last week was 'A' week.  We started with painting some letter 'A's.

Then we worked with some playdough.  We made some alligators.

Albert had a rough evening.  He screamed for at least 10 solid minutes at dinnertime and then feel asleep on Daddy.  Daddy then got to eat his dinner sitting in the rocking chair.  When Albert woke up, he was fine.  Apparently he just needed to reboot.

On a hot afternoon last week, Addilyn was invited to go to the splash park with some friends after school.  The boys were pretty bummed they couldn't go.  We decided to have our own water fun at home.  We went outside and "watered the plants" which pretty much involves occasionally spraying the garden and drenching Elias.  Afterward, we headed in for a very long bath.  

"Hey guys, whatcha doing?"

"That looks like fun. Can I play too?"

 "Oh, hi there, Baby Albert."

"Silly baby! You can't come in the tub with us."

"There, there."

"But here's a toy."
He seemed pretty happy with the arrangement so I guess that did the trick.

Art and Other Adventures at Home

This is where Albert was while everyone else was painting. He seemed happy.

A grasshopper!  This grasshopper found it's way into our house and was hanging out on our window in the dining room.  Everyone was pretty excited to be able to check it out up close before we let it go outside.  Oddly enough, we had a second one make it's way in to our kitchen on the same day.  We haven't found another before or since. Weird.

A Party for Cornelius

Last week we had a birthday party for Cornelius (Addilyn's favorite stuffed giraffe).  We made some rainbow cupcakes to celebrate (and so we could cross "bake colorful cupcakes" off our summer list).  Addilyn was mixing in the green food coloring.

 We then just dropped in different colors of batter into each liner.  That way each cupcake was unique.

This was an egg-free cake recipe so that we could share with Asher.  I'm not sure if it was because of the lack of eggs or something else in the baking process but these cupcake tops were concave instead of convex.  We decided that would give us a good opportunity to add a surprise ingredient.

Enjoying his cupcake.  If you look closely you'll see that we filled the top with mini chocolate chips before frosting them.  Mmm.

After all our work, Addilyn told me that it wasn't really Cornelius' birthday.  She was just pretending.  Cornelius' birthday is actually on Easter. 
Oh, I guess this girl doesn't need any help with imaginative play.  I had fun throwing a party with you anyway, silly girl.
